Zodiac Man

In every edition of The Old Farmer’s Almanac is a short astrology section with the Secrets of the Zodiac and The Man of Signs.

Ancient astrologers believed that each astrological sign influenced a specific part of the body.

The first sign of the zodiac—Aries—was attributed to the head, with the rest of the signs moving down the body, ending with Pisces at the feet.

Many readers use the Man of Signs to determine the best days for gardening, setting eggs, and even having surgery.

Remember “Bull” Connor?

Remember “Bull” Connor, Democrat from Birmingham, Alabama?

“Bull” Connor, Democrat Party’s Commissioner of Public Safety for the city of Birmingham, Alabama, during the American Civil Rights Movement, is most associated with the civil rights demonstrations in Birmingham where to many the very public role of Connor and what took place in Birmingham seemed to epitomise the racial problems that existed in the South.

“Bull” Connor, Democrat, became an international symbol of bigotry. Connor, a democrat, infamously directed the use of fire hoses, and police attack dogs against peaceful demonstrators, including children.

Leftist Race-Baiters

Leftist Race-baiters

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, in a recent debate with former Republican National Chairman Michael Steele, called the Republican Party the “grand wizard crowd.” Grand wizard is the title given to the leader of the Ku Klux Klan. It is truly misinformed to call Republicans the party of the Klan. Throughout our history, most Klansmen and most racists have been Democrats. Here are a few racist quotes from major Democratic figures.

The late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., a former Klansman, wrote during World War II: “I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. … Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

When Lyndon B. Johnson was in the House of Representatives, he said that President Harry Truman’s civil rights program was “a farce and a sham — an effort to set up a police state in the guise of liberty.” He continued: “I am opposed to that program. I have voted against the so-called poll tax repeal bill. … I have voted against the so-called anti-lynching bill.” When Johnson had become senator, he observed, “These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days, and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness.”

Chris Matthews is by no means unique among NBC’s race-baiters. After NBC was caught red-handed doctoring George Zimmerman’s 911 call to a police dispatcher, in an effort to make him out to be a racist, Steve Capus, president of NBC’s news division, said it was “a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call.” That’s a baldfaced lie, for it’s almost impossible to make such a mistake. Furthermore, the producer who allegedly was fired remains a secret.

When Texas Gov. Rick Perry referred to our national debt as a “big black cloud that hangs over America, (a) debt that is so monstrous,” MSNBC’s Ed Schultz said, “That black cloud Perry is talking about is President Barack Obama.” Matthews chimed in to say that Perry’s vision of federalism is “Bull Connor with a smile.”

In August 2009, MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer was discussing a tea party rally in Arizona, where it’s legal to carry an unconcealed weapon. She said: “A man at a pro-health care reform rally … wore a semiautomatic assault rifle on his shoulder and a pistol on his hip. … There are questions about whether this has racial overtones. I mean, here you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns.” All that her audience was shown were a rifle and pistol strapped to a man’s back. MSNBC concealed the fact that the armed man was black and did not show the interview he gave to the reporter. Brewer knowingly deceived her audience because an armed black man didn’t fit the racial narrative.

It’s not just white liberals in the media who are stirring up racial animosity; they have help from black politicians. During last year’s debate on the debt ceiling, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said that argument over the debt ceiling was proof of racial animosity toward Obama. Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., said the tea party wishes to lynch blacks and hang them from trees. Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., said Perry’s job creation in Texas is “one stage away from slavery.” While appearing on MSNBC, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter referred to Trayvon Martin’s death as an “assassination.” Nutter had better worry about the 118 “assassinations” in Philadelphia so far this year.

To their own detriment — and that of the nation — black people are being used to further the liberal big-government agenda. Black people have been misled to think that their problems are with white people and government and that black politicians are the solution. There’s not a speck of evidence supporting either vision — despite the election of a white African as president

WASTED BRA BURNING

Seems as though I wasted a perfectly good bra during the 1960′s feminist movement! By burning our bras, we women of the sixties were attempting to make a statement in regard to equality not only in the job market but more explicitly for participation in the sexual revolution!  In other words — what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

In my opinion, the sexual-revolution part has somehow become completely perverted. The original intent was that female adults should be able to have the same sexual freedom as male adults without the fear of unwanted pregnancies.  The key word here is ADULTS.  It would be real nice if we could add the words mature and responsible, but that’s probably asking too much (especially in today’s current environment).

Through the introduction of the birth control pill (via results of the feminist movement), women now have more more options than previous generations. Young women may now pursue careers that were not previously available to them. Families may now choose to produce and raise children when they feel they are responsibly able to do so.   That was the original intent of  “the movement” — however, something has gone amuck here!

It seems this country has somehow ruined the feminist ideology.  Or did I somehow misunderstand?  I believed the introduction of birth control would offer women the opportunity of independence to grow and mature into responsible adults so when financially and physically able they would be capable of making wise family decisions.

In my opinion, the current welfare system in this country has corrupted and ruined this ideology.  Advocates of the welfare system believe the current system provides indiscriminate females (specifically teens) with independence.  Excuse me if I seem naive, but does that mean that a pregnant thirteen year old (with no husband) will be able to raise a child independently and responsibly?   The problem: A society which tolerates thirteen year old females to flaunt their pregnant bellies as trophies or medals of honor.  The answer:  Stop making child-production the professional goal of female youth (or of any female).  Is this what women-libbers meant by independence and choice?  Welfare offer females the choice to be lazy, incompetent and dependent.  There is no excuse for unwanted pregnancies.  (Note:  I personally believe that abortion should never be used as a birth control method. However, I also believe that the choice a woman makes concerning her body is between her and the Creator — and I have no right in that decision-making).

Another problem:  government welfare “pork”.  Let us not forge that without the “welfare system” — many will loose their jobs.  Without pregnant teens there will be no need for counselors, social workers, clerks, accountants and the myriad of government porkers.  The loudest screamers against welfare reform are the people working within the system.

It is the responsibility of all of us to change the current welfare nightmare.  Let us procure true independence by teaching our daughters and granddaughters to respect themselves both physically and spiritually.  Our bodies are indeed “temples” and they must not be abused by others or ourselves.  Females who recklessly produce children without means of support for their care are discrediting and disgracing those females who do find the miracle and beauty of child rearing a sacred and serious business.

Word of the Day: Lobbyist

lobbyist – someone who is employed to persuade legislators to vote for legislation that favors the lobbyist’s employer

The Willard Hotel Washington, D.C. is considered the birthplace for the term “lobbyist” coined during President Grants term in office.

Grant was not a big fan of the White House, and he liked to get out and have a cigar in the evening.   “He would go to the lobby of the Willard Hotel almost every night for a cigar and drink. People would wait in the lobby until he got there and then talk to him informally about what it was they needed. They became known as lobbyists.”

Call this the birthplace of special interests.
