GOT APATHY?

Bell – a small city in California located southeast of Los Angeles received national attention this week.  It seems this city’s part-time administrators and council-people have been exploiting and abusing the coffers of Bell for many years. Evidently, their current city manager managed to provide himself with an $800,000 annual income (allegedly more than Obama’s salary). $800,000 for a “part-time” job – really?  In all my experiences with government (city, state, or federal),  I’ve never found government-related employees and/or politicians of being capable of performing efficiently in a full-time capacity let alone part-time!

A “leak” to the LA Times blew their cover. Supposedly, a Bell policeman (or possibly policemen) was the “stoolie”.  Bell’s Chief of Police (allegedly) was also raking in the big bucks. Nothing about this story surprises me.  What does surprise me, however, is that the LA Times actually performed their media duty and reported this story.  This liberal/progressive newspaper is notorious for its inaccurate or non-reporting of political corruption. They are especially clever at reporting news stories favoring the liberal/progressive agenda.  Perhaps this particular story could not be “warped” in favor of the liberals; or perhaps the Times feared repercussions from their most despised critic – FOX News – if in fact they would have either given it their usual liberal spin or simply by not reporting.

The citizens of Bell are up in arms; storming city hall; carrying protest signs; fist-punching the air while screaming and shouting for resignations of the guilty parties.  No – not resignations – the people of Bell are demanding that these bums be thrown in prison. Their city manager retorts that he doesn’t need this abuse. He claims he could make more money in a “free market” enterprise than in any government office.  (Uhhhh, I don’t think so, Mr. City Manager.  A “free market” business means you would have to work for your money!)

As for the dear, dear citizens of Bell, I feel your pain.  Ain’t it just awful how politicians take advantage of our trust and faith by telling us they’re only “looking out for our best interest”?  Ain’t it horrible how government can rape, plunder and exploit our hopes, our expectations and our aspirations of receiving the ultimate “American Dream”?  How dare they squander our hard-earned tax dollars!

Hmmmm…..how in fact did this happen?  Had it not been for the “leak”, would the good citizens of Bell have voted for these same scoundrels year after year?  Would the good citizens of Bell have researched, investigated and reviewed records and prior performances of these crooks (or that of any opposing candidate) before placing them in office?  Hmmmm?

The problem with the city of Bell (and with all communities, municipalities, towns and cities across the United State) lie not with corrupt politicians but with we the people who have placed them in office in the first place.  We the people have allowed corruption to continue at all levels of our government. Why?  Cause we……got apathy.

The Case for Impeachment.

Read The Case for Impeachment by Tom Tancredo in The Washington Times.  His argument is spot on.  If ever there was a more impeachable offense, I’d have to say it was playing politics and disregarding the rule of law when it comes to immigration and Article IV Section 4 of the United States Constitution.

CLASS ENVY

The following are excerpts from the “afterward” of George Orwell’s 1984 by Erich Fromm:

George Orwell’s 1984 is the expression of a mood, and it is a warning.  The mood it expresses is that of near despair about the future of man, and the warning is that unless the course of history changes, men all over the world will lose their most human qualities, will become soulless automations, and will not even be aware of it.

The Old Testatment philosphy of history assumes that man grows and unfolds in history and eventually becomes what he potentially is.  It assumes that he develops his powers of reason and love fully and thus is enabled to grasp the world, being one with his fellow man and nature, at the same time preserving his individuality and his integrity.

Recently, I pulled out an old dog-eared paperback copy of Orwell’s 1984, and while nonchalantly flipping through its worn pages, came across the above words of Erich Fromm.  These particular words sprang right off the page for me.  In a previous submittal to this blog site entitled  ”MILK-TOAST”, I had addressed the same issue.  In less than a hundred words, Mr. Fromm summarized my exact sentiment of which took me four hundred words to express. Especially the following statement –  ”will become soulless automations, and will not even be aware of it”  – which was my exact argument.  (Of course Fromm’s style and delivery is more articulate and well-expressed than mine.)

My point is this — literary works such as 1984 are being read by millions of students year after year — why then is there not more concern and outrage regarding the current direction of this nation?  Have people in this country now become “soulless automations”?

It seems they have.

Not only have most people become “unaware” but it is my belief that since the 1960′s, the progressive movement has encouraged a mood of class envy.  As a child, I remember not only coveting items belonging  to others but also coveting the remarkable talents of others.  Aren’t all of us guilty of “coveting” at some point in our lives?  I believe it is the duty and responsibility of parents to re-direct these negative feelings.  Good parenting recognizes the need to reinforce the abilities, talents and strengths of each child and focus those goals in that direction.  In other words, guide and redirect envious feelings and replace it with the recognization that each of us has our very own uniqueness and individuality.

The breakdown of the “family unit” has made it easy for the progressive movement to abuse and corrupt generations of children.  The dependency on welfare has been their most powerful tool.  For many generations, state welfare programs have been taking the position of  parenting and thereby reducing  personal “stability.”  Generations of adults are now “conditioned” and believe it is their right to covet and receive the benefits from the toils and talents of others.

Promoting class envy has worked out well for the current administration (along with creating racial divisiveness).  Obama, his administration and the progressives should re-visit and review the tenth commandment.

Walter Williams on Government Spending

1

Conservatives and liberals are kindred spirits as far as government spending is concerned. First, let’s make sure we understand what government spending is.  Since government has no resources of its own, and since there’s no Tooth Fairy handing Congress the funds for the programs it enacts, we are forced to recognize that government spending is no less than the confiscation of one person’s property to give it to another to whom it does not belong – in effect, legalized theft. – Walter Williams

Quote concerning taxes and taxation by Voltaire (1764)

In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one party of the citizens to give to the other.

NOTHING HARD ABOUT IT

3

Posted by The Scribe | Posted in Elitist Arrogance, The Scribe | Posted on 17-07-2010

Obama has called in a team of “experts” to evaluate the economic situation of this country.  REALLY?  Mr. O, have you not been paying attention?  Is it that you’ve been much too busy playing the “blame game” or too busy “spending, spending, spending”?  Obviously, foolish over-spending is your forte.  It’s real simple, Mr. O, your socialist administration has managed to kill and/or obstruct the free-market business/industry (aka capitalism) of which has managed to keep this country afloat for many generations.  Therefore, your administration has caused a downward spiral of financial disaster.

There is no need to spend money hiring alleged experts — simply pay attention to radio /television commercials.  Advertising experts in the free market system evaluate economic and market trends daily.  Free market enterprises do pay attention!  They pay attention to, and respond to, the market (which translates to the people)!  Oh, yes indeedy, which means businesses are interested in…..oh no……profit! It’s obvious, Mr. O, that you’ve not taken Econ 101.

Over previous months, advertisers have hit the market hard with products that address the American people’s issues.  Marketing companies spend thousands of dollars researching the wants and needs of consumers.  The American people are stressed.  They are worried.  They are concerned.  Financially strapped Americans see no hope on the horizon.  Stress (according to “statistics”)  creates all sorts of mental, emotional and physical issues.  Working men and women (and I stress the word “working”) seek help to relieve daily pressures.  They are seeking strong and firm investments to somehow place security into their future.

There’s nothing hard about it, my dear Mr. Obama, marketing experts have evaluated economic issues and have resolved all problems.  Have you not seen the commercial:  “dont watch your hard-earned money shrink to nothing – invest in GOLD!”  Invest in tangible gold (not gold certificates) but gold for a strong and firm investment.  And the advertising solution to the ultimate quandary of working men and women is Viagra!

Don’t take my word for it…..view television commercials, listen to radio ads, read magazine/newspaper advertisements…..solutions addressed….and all without spending a dime of the American people’s hard-earned tax dollars.

Viva viagra!

Quotes Concerning Weapons of Mass Destruction

I know that this is all common knowledge and is dwelling on issues from the past; however, I can’t help myself but to bring back to the forefront the liberal agenda the “Progressives” are trying to shove down our throat!  Here is a compilation of quotes and letters from the left side of the aisle that I would like to show you and help you remember how it really was before the war in Iraq.  Try to remember some of these when the present administration tries to blame some of their present problems on…  “It was Bush!”

Also remember that these are some of the same people in the present administration.  These are some of the same people who are trying to project that they had nothing to do with the decision to invade Iraq.  These are some of the same people making decisions that affect us.

Economic Disaster? No, Duh!

1

Did we really need to appoint a commission to tell us that we are headed for economic disaster?  Is Barrack Obama that arrogant and short sighted to NOT be able to see the obvious writing on the wall?  Couldn’t any progressive Democrat with even the smallest amount of common sense stop and just point out to the administration that, hello, we definitely have an incredibly obvious problem here?

Did we really have to hire someone to tell us what we already knew?  Isn’t it about time for even the most faithful followers of this administration to start questioning the reasoning behind the type of “CHANGE” that has been occurring?

And why hasn’t the Republican party been raising 20 kinds of hell and stating what is on most conservative’s minds?

Bill O’Reilly, this is not the news story you should be reporting on.  The real story should be:  Why is Obama suddenly realizing there is a problem and why did it take so long for him to realize what most common sense Americans already knew?  Or are we being fed another ”smoke and mirrors” line of crap?

Get with the program!
